Barley: “I went vegan at the same time as a close friend I had at the time - for years I thought she and her husband were committed vegans like me. I found out that her husband had only been vegan for a short time then had gone back to vegetarian and she had struggled between vegan and vegetarian almost all the time we had known each other and had eventually returned to vegetarianism - telling me she was a lapsed vegan. I saw some Dove (Lever Bros) soap in her bathroom and decided I was better off without such ‘friends’ and have had no contact with her since.”
