File this one under the “plants have feelings too” category, an argument that simply does not work on vegans. And for good reason. Unless you can show that plants have an equal capacity for suffering as animals do and that meat eaters kill fewer plants than vegans, it’s not a solid case against self-restrictive morality-based eating.

Let’s face it, no article about how there’s more to plants than we realize will ever make a vegan feel guilty about eating plants. Well, I guess that’s the point. By telling vegans about plant sentience, you’re trying to show them that they constantly eat things that once had feelings without getting all weepy and self-loathing about it.

“Hey vegans: plants remember light. Therefore, when you eat plants, you are a murderer of light. If that doesn’t send your conscience into spasms, neither will eating animals.”

I’m not sure if that really follows from the argument. But it’s certainly true that it’s possible to eat animals without feeling guilt.
